money; but, in as much as no public moneys whatever were kept in

that safe, no such contingency could ever arise.

15. Inasmuch as His Excellency the Governor intenda to take

proceedings against me with a view to my suspension, and in view

of the fact that in accordance with the enclosed letter I have

already been suspended (whether the Pstmaster General has a

right to suspend me or not, I do not know) I earnestly hope that

my absence from duty since and including the 18th instant in

pursuance of the directions contained in the enclosed letter,

does not constitute any further breach of the Colonial

Regulations.

In conclusion, I can only add that I earnestly hope

that my long and faithful services to the Government for the last

27 years, during the major part of which I have handled, every

week, thousand of dollars and insured covera without any loss

whatsoever, will have some weight with His Excellency the Gover

nor in considering the matter.

have done, was done without any malicious or unlawful intent whatsoever, and should His Excellency be of opinion that I had any guilty intent in the matter, I am prepared to submit my humbl

Further self to any punishment, however rigorous it might be. more, if it can be assumed, even for the purposea of argument,

that I had any feloneous intent whatsoever, it is obviously ridiculous, 1 repectfully submit that I should ask any person whomsoever, to attempt the opening of the safe on my behalf, in view of the fact that I had free access to the safe at all times.
